NEWARK, N.J. -- New York Giants top running back David Wilson needs neck surgery and his future in football is uncertain. Giants general manager Jerry Reese disclosed the news Thursday during a radio interview with WFAN in New York City. New Yorks first-round draft pick in 2012, Wilson was hurt on Oct. 6 after being tackled coming out of his own end zone in a home game against Philadelphia. Wilson will have a fusion of the vertebrae to repair the herniated disc in his neck. The procedure will be performed by Dr. Frank Cammisa at the Hospital of Special Surgery on Jan. 16. "You have to look at him differently, because hes got the whole neck issue hovering over him right now," Reese said. "So hes got to come back and be healthy, No. 1. Hes planning to have surgery, and well see how that comes out. Our medical staff feels like hell be ready to play this fall, but the neck and back -- thats pretty tricky. So you never know." Wilson played five games this past season. He was eventually put on season-ending injured reserve Nov. 7. Wilson finished with 44 carries for 146 yards and a touchdown. He caught two passes for 8 yards and had nine kickoff returns for a 24.7-yard average. "Jason Pierre-Paul had a back (injury), and he was just a shell of what he was a couple years ago," Reese added. "So those things can be pretty tricky. So I think you cant go into the season saying, Well, David, hell be healthy and ready to go. We saw in the preseason a couple times he can be a dynamic player and he can be a dynamic kick returner and you can throw a short pass to him and he can make a big play with it. But right now, were just trying to get him healthy and get him back out there. Thats whats most important for us right now, to get him healthy." Giants chief executive John Mara hopes Wilson can play again. "Time will tell on that one," said added, also being interviewed by WFAN. Wilson had 1,925 all-purpose yards as a rookie, the sixth-highest total in team history, the most ever by a Giants rookie and the most for any Giant since Tiki Barber had 2,127 in 2006. His 1,533 kickoff return yards led the NFL and set a Giants record, breaking the former mark of 1,291 set by Domenik Hixon in 2009. Wilsons 26.9-yard kickoff return average was sixth in the NFL. He also rushed for 358 yards and four touchdowns and caught four passes for 34 yards and a score. Deion Jones Jersey . -- Canadas Nicole Vandermade won the Four Winds Invitational on Sunday for her first Symetra Tour title, closing with a 4-under 68 for a one-stroke victory. Blidi Wreh-Wilson Jersey . "Yes, Id like to get them in," Detroits rookie manager said. "Mother Natures going to have a say in that." Sure enough, the Tigers had their game against the Kansas City Royals postponed because of rain on Thursday. http://www.thefaclonsshoponline.com/And ... ns-Jersey/. The club says Fridays surgery was successful. Holiday, a former Eastern Conference All-Star acquired from Philadelphia last summer, has not played because of the shin injury since Jan. Ricardo Allen Jersey . Nine-year veteran Danny Granger did not make his debut with the Clippers because of a technicality on the teams active list, which is signed by coach Doc Rivers before every game and relayed to the officials. Grangers name was printed by hand by a member of the public relations staff under the heading: "Updated Roster Additions," but the number on the sheet was not circled along with the other active players by the required deadline of 6:30 p. Atlanta Falcons Jerseys . Kadri was dressed in a green jersey at Thursdays practice and skated as an extra forward on the teams fourth line as the Leafs.Injuries and a struggling offense have led to the Carolina Hurricanes posting their worst start in franchise history. The Hurricanes hope to bounce back quickly and earn their first win of the campaign tonight as they visit the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers lost their first five games (0-4-1) of the season, including the opener of a seven-game homestand on Oct. 17, but have rebounded to win two straight. They have picked up wins over Tampa Bay and Washington, both by a 3-2 score, most recently topping the Capitals on Wednesday. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Justin Schultz and Nikita Nikitin all scored and Ben Scrivens made 13 of his 32 saves in the third period to win his second straight outing. I havent done anything different the last two games. Were just starting to get bounces, Scrivens said. Scrivens has allowed only five goals in his last three starts after giving up 14 over his first three appearances. He is 1-2-0 with a 2.38 GAA and .933 save percentage in three previous starts against the Hurricanes. The Oilers won both of their meetings against the Hurricanes last season and have won four of the last six encounters in Edmonton. Carolina remains without Jordan Staal, Eric Staal and Patrick Dwyer due to injury and has also seen Jeff Skinner, Nathan Gerrbe and John-Michael Liles sit out at times this season.dddddddddddd The Hurricanes have lost 24 man games to injury through six contests, part of the reason they are 0-4-2. The other reason is the fact that the Canes have scored only two goals in their past three outings and they officially got off to their worst start in club history with last nights 5-0 setback in Calgary. Cam Ward allowed all five goals on 24 shots as Carolina surpassed five-game winless streaks set in 1987-88 and 2003-04. It got away from us, Carolina head coach Bill Peters said. There were too many freebies, too many easy goals, and too much time and space. Its not the way weve played up to this point. Carolina concludes a five-game road trip on Tuesday in Vancouver -- a game in which Eric Staal may return for -- and Peters is likely to go with Anton Khudobin in net tonight. Khudobin is 2-1-0 with a 1.40 goals against average and .960 save percentage in three games versus the Oilers, including two starts.
