Ask anybody from the hardcore mixed martial arts fan to the guy on the corner barstool. Theyll all tell you its just about the coolest thing theyve ever seen in a cage. In the waning minutes of a title fight nearly three years ago, Anthony Pettis put his right foot on the fence, launched himself airborne and kicked Benson Henderson in the face, toppling him onto the canvas. In one sublime motion, Pettis lived every gravity-defying kinetic fantasy of every kid raised on video games, parkour and Jackie Chan movies -- and he won a championship belt, too. For the first time since Pettis landed whats now known as the Showtime Kick, hell be back in the cage with Henderson on Saturday night at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee at UFC 164. Both fighters realize their careers have been partly defined by that single moment of acrobatics, but neither fighter is thinking much about the past before a key bout for both mens futures. "Im not going to live off of it," Pettis said. "It happened. Were past it. Ive got to fight him again, and hes the champ. So even with that kick, Im still not the champ, so Ive got a lot to prove." Their long-anticipated rematch is headlining the first major card on the UFCs packed fall slate. Veteran heavyweight Frank Mir will take on Josh Barnett, who returns to the UFC after an 11-year absence, while featherweights Chad Mendes and Clay Guida also will meet. Pettis hometown crowd cant possibly expect something to top the Showtime Kick, but this bout means more than the lightweights first meeting. Henderson (18-2) is the UFCs 155-pound champion, while Pettis (16-2) is the only man to beat him in more than six years. But Pettis kick has lost none of its lustre in the time since that WEC bout in Phoenix, Hendersons hometown, in December 2010. One version of the highlight has nearly 5 million views on YouTube, and its a staple of MMA highlights packages. Even after 18 months as the UFCs lightweight champ, Henderson is still stung by his only defeat in his last 21 fights. Henderson wasnt knocked out by the kick with 65 seconds left in the final round, but it clearly swung an exciting, tight fight in favour of Pettis, who claimed the belt with a unanimous decision. "Anthony let it all out and landed a pretty cool kick," Henderson said. "And ever since, Ive been working to redeem myself. Beating up the next guy, the guy after that, beating up the guy after that, that was redeeming myself -- working past that one moment in my life." Henderson has excelled by becoming an effective points fighter, battering his opponents with flurries of less-than-fearsome strikes adding up to decision victories. Henderson hasnt stopped an opponent since April 2010, but he seized the UFC lightweight title from Frankie Edgar early last year and defended it three times -- twice by razor-thin split decisions over Edgar and Gilbert Melendez. He always knew Pettis was lurking in the background, waiting for a chance to repeat his spectacular win. The fighters are cordial and complimentary toward each other, but not friendly. "We have never sat down and discussed it," Henderson said of their last bout. "In my head, I knew that wed be facing off at some point in time again, so there wasnt a real big need for anything like that." Hendersons detractors are hoping Pettis is the antidote to the champions style. Pettis is a crowd-pleaser, with a taekwondo background and superlative striking skills. "Its not like I just won the (last) fight off of just one kick," Pettis said. "I put the work in the other rounds to be in that position. Ive got a lot to work for." Pettis might have won the lightweight belt before Henderson even got a chance to get his hands on it, if not for a debatable career choice. Unwilling to wait around for the next title shot after Edgar returned from an injury in 2011, Pettis accepted a bout against Guida, who upset him. Pettis has fought just three times since, winning twice by dramatic knockout, but also sitting out most of 2012 with injuries. Pettis would have been forced to wait even longer for his shot at Henderson, but challenger T.J. Grant pulled out of the matchup with a concussion last month. Pettis was contemplating a move down to challenge featherweight champion Jose Aldo, but he eagerly seized a second chance to take on Henderson in his hometown. "You cant blame me for trying to get a title shot," Pettis said. "Thats what its all about. Every fighter wants to be a champion, and I was right there. Ive been getting ready for a title shot since January, and its August now, so you cant blame me for trying." Charlie Blackmon Jersey . The 10-year deal the league and players agreed to that ended the 2011 lockout gave either side the right to opt out after six years. With the league projecting financial growth, there has been speculation that players will take that option in three years, especially since a new national TV contract will be in place by then. PETERSBURG, Florida – Heading into Thursday nights action, Dioner Navarro had caught 14 innings combined from starters Drew Hutchison and Mark Buehrle. Custom Colorado Rockies Jerseys .com) - Matt Duchene picked up the deciding goal early in the third period and added an assist, as Colorado escaped with a 4-3 victory over Dallas at Pepsi Center. Jonathan Lucroy Jersey . Sterling was banned for life and fined US$2.5 million by the NBA on Tuesday for racist comments the league says he made in a recorded conversation. Nash, who plays for the rival L.A. Lakers, spoke as a representative of current NBA players at a press conference assembled by Sacramento mayor and National Basketball Players Association adviser Kevin Johnson. DENVER -- Semyon Varlamov and the Colorado Avalanche found a cure for their first slump of the season -- play the Stanley Cup champs. Colorado came up big against Chicago last spring, and repeated that performance Tuesday night. Varlamov stopped 36 shots and Paul Stastny had a goal and an assist for the Avalanche in a 5-1 victory over the Blackhawks. Gabriel Landeskog and John Mitchell also scored during Colorados three-goal first period. P.A. Parenteau and Cody McLeod added goals in the second and third for Colorado, which snapped a three-game skid. "You always say a win is a win, and it is. But at the same time our strength is our team morale and confidence," Landeskog said. "It feels good. It doesnt mean anything unless we go into Phoenix and play well." Brandon Saad scored for the Blackhawks, who failed to get at least two goals for the first time this season. Colorado ended Chicagos NHL-record streak of 24 consecutive games with at least a point to start a season in a 6-2 win last March. "Maybe we tend to respect them a little more than other teams, which we shouldnt," Stastny said. "We should respect everyone the same way. When youre young, that happens. Theyre the defending champs and you always want to play your best against the best." Antti Raanta made 14 saves in his NHL debut for the Blackhawks. He played the final 46:23 in relief of Corey Crawford, who allowed three goals on seven shots. "The target all the time was that someday I could play in the NHL, and in Rockford I had good games there, and I know I can do it," he said. "Only now its the small things, so we have to keep doing work and prepare to be even better all the time." The Blackhawks had their opportunities in outshooting Colorado 37-23. They had several quality chances to get back in the game in the second period but couldnt put one past Varlamov. Colorado stumbled after winning 14 of its first 16 games but capitalized on its chances in the first period this time. Stastny scored when Brent Seabrooks pass off the boards ricocheted tto him in the slot, and he beat Crawford with a slap shot.dddddddddddd Landeskog gave Colorado a two-goal lead when he redirected Andre Benoits shot from the point past Crawford with 7:39 left in the period. Just 56 seconds later, Mitchell made it 3-0. "We had a really good start. We were really sharp around the net and scored nice goals," Avalanche coach Patrick Roy said. Raanta, recalled Sunday, replaced Crawford after Mitchells goal. He faced only seven shots over the next 25 minutes but allowed his first goal late in the second period. After the Blackhawks had several strong chances in front of Varlamov, Parenteau skated down the left boards and beat Raanta with a shot from the circle to make it 4-0 with 1:22 left in the second. "The fourth goal was big for us. They were buzzing in our zone and Varly made some key saves for us," Roy said. "Youre always afraid being up 3-0 of having a letdown. But we were moving our feet." McLeod scored his first goal of the season on a rebound 1:44 into the third. Chicago lost forward Bryan Bickell in the first period after he crashed into the Avalanche net. He didnt return, and coach Joel Quenneville said after the game that Bickell might be more than day to day. "But Im not sure of that," Quenneville said. Its a tough blow for the Blackhawks, who are playing without forwards Michael Handzus and Marian Hossa. "Bicksie is obviously a big part of this and you hope its not too long," Kris Versteeg said. "Obviously, we need him in the lineup." NOTES: Colorado forward Maxime Talbot and defenceman Tyson Barrie had two assists each. ... There were only two penalties called in the game, one on each team. ... Avalanche C Matt Duchene is expected to miss at least a week with an oblique injury sustained in Saturdays loss to Florida. ... Hossa missed his third straight game with a lower-body injury. ... Colorado placed forward Alex Tanguay (knee) and defenceman Ryan Wilson (back) on injured reserve and recalled C Brad Malone and Barrie from Lake Erie of the AHL.
